A number of local people, agencies and organisations have pledged to work together to raise awareness of dementia, making West Lindsey more inclusive for people living with the condition.

The West Lindsey Dementia Action Alliance includes the district council, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, Lincolnshire Police, the Alzheimer’s Society, Voluntary Sector Services, the Carers Partnership and a number of local residents who have first-hand experience of living with people who have dementia.

The number of people living with dementia in West Lindsey is expected to rise sharply over the next 30 years as people live longer. By forming a Dementia Action Alliance people and agencies can work together to make sure those living with the condition remain independent and an active part of their communities for as long as possible.

Coun Alan Caine, coordinating member for health and community safety at West Lindsey District Council, said: “There will be more and more people living with dementia in the future so we need to start preparing for that now.

“It is great that so many people have already committed to working together to help support people living with this condition and we urge local businesses, residents and organisation to get involved.”

Lincs Police has already committed to providing all of their officers with dementia awareness training and the alliance is developing an action plan to help make a difference.
