West Lindsay: Council sporting programme short-listed for national award

West Lindsey’s Sporting FUNdamentals programme which is run by Everyone Active, has been short-listed as a finalist in this year’s ukactive and Matrix Flame Awards,.

The awards are the most highly coveted accolade of the health and fitness sector.

This innovative programme is one of just six short-listed in the Shaping the Future Generation category which recognises a programme that has significantly shaped the lives of young people through physical activity.

Commenting on the nomination, Chris Duncan, East Region activities and funding manager said, “The Sporting FUNdamentals programme in West Lindsey has been a fantastic success.

“This is due in no small part to the colleagues in West Lindsey who have put in a huge amount of effort and time. “

“This project secured Big Lottery funding to help ten different primary schools in the area to access a variety of different sports .”

“The outcome is that students are feeling fitter and more confident.”

“Gaining this nomination demonstrates that this pilot project is fulfilling its ambition of changing the futures of young people in the West Lindsey area.”

Coun Owen Bierley, chairman of the council’s prosperous communities committee said: “It is fantastic to hear the Sporting FUNdamentals programme has been short-listed.”

“It is a great endorsement of a project that is working to transform the lives of youngsters in West Lindsey and of all the hard work which has gone into it.”

David Stalker, chief executive of ukactive said “We would like to congratulate each and every finalist who has reached this shortlist stage.”

“The assessment process is known for being the toughest in the business and the level of competition just gets better every year.”
