The fog is expected to reduce the visibility for motorists below 100 metres in places and leading to difficult driving conditions.
The fog will then lift slowly towards noon.
A Met Office chief forecaster said: “A ridge of high pressure across central areas of the UK will lead to light winds and clear spells overnight, a recipe like the last two nights for areas of locally thick fog to develop, which will take until late morning on Tuesday to clear in some places.”
