Water great event!

A GATHERING of historic boats were on show at the town lock over the weekend.

The event is being hosted by the Chesterfield Canal Trust to coincide with Retford Heritage Day, which allows the public to enter historic buildings for free.

Besides more than 20 colourful narrowboats, people could enjoy boat trips, stalls and a beer festival at the Rum Runner pub.

The Trust’s very own 81-year-old ex-working boat, Python, was also on display to wow crowds. As well as boats, there was a host of canalside stalls which were in the car park for the Bay Tree Restaurant and Café and behind Retford Little Theatre.

The Rum Runner boasted more than ten real ales and there will be live music.
