Waste centre to reopen

A WASTE recycling centre in Retford is set to reopen after a ‘comprehensive’ 12-week refurbishment.

The Hallcroft Road site will open its bins tomorrow, Friday, marking the completion of a programme that has improved all of the county’s 14 waste units managed by Veolia.

The refurbishment to the Retford site will improve traffic flows through the site, which decreases the length of time taken by residents to unload.

The removal of bulky items from cars has been made easier by the split level design. Items can now be dropped into the skips rather than lifted into them.

Kevin Parker from Veolia Environmental Services said: “After completing the other sites, we’ve seen a huge improvement in the recycling rates which means less waste going to landfill. In the coming months we’ll work with Retford residents to increase the recycling rates.”

Notts’ household waste and recycling rates have risen from 58 per cent to 77 per cent in the last five years.

Tips open from 8am, seven days a week. For the winter period (to February 28th) the waste centres will be open until 4pm.

They are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
