Warning after two crashes on misty Monday morning

The first was just before 6.30am on the B6045 between Worksop and Blyth.

A vehicle had left the road, but luckily no-one was hurt.

The second was shortly afterwards at 6.53am at the A614 junction with Wrights Hill at Harworth.

Three vehicles had collided, and the occupants escaped with minor injuries.

Yesterday’s accidents, which happened on a misty morning, have prompted a warning from Bassetlaw Insp Steve Cartwright.

“With the onset of Autumn we get a change in driving conditions, so it is important that we all drive to the conditions and ensure our vehicles are visible by switching on our lights,” he said.

“Mornings and evenings are getting darker and fog is beginning to appear. Please plan your journeys so you have enough time even in reduced visibility and avoid the temptation to rush.”

Insp Cartwright reminded drivers that the four main reasons for deaths or serious injury on our roads were:

• Inappropriate use of speed

• Using a mobile phone whilst driving

• Not wearing a seat belt

• Driving while affected through drink or drugs
