Warning about bogus cold-callers claiming to be from council
Residents across Nottinghamshire have been warned to ignore bogus cold-callers who are ringing them claiming to be from Notts County Council.
Police say the scam involves the conmen asking if the residents have been in any recent car-accidents.
The advice is to hang up straight away. “The county council would never contact you to discuss accidents or any other claims-management-type scenarios,” says trading standards officer David Brocklebank.
“If you are unsure, ask for their full name and then ring the council on 0300 5008080.”
