Walkers raise money for Help For Heroes

They were raising money for Help For Heroes - the charity that supports injured servicemen and women and their families.

The walk was the brainchild of ex-serviceman James Rowlands and friend Mick Hirst.

“After many discussions in Dinnington Snooker Club, which is where I met James, the route was finally decided and the date set,” said Mick.

The 12 walkers set off from Misterton at 8am. There were two groups - one walking the canal to Kiveton Park, the other walking the roads through the villages.

“Everyone who started successfully finished their walks and found them very enjoyable,” said Mick. “The road group finished at Dinnington Snooker Club at 4pm having completed 21 miles, with the canal walkers finishing their 32 miles at 7.30pm.”

Sponsorship money is still rolling in, but so far the group have managed to raise just over £600
