Wales: Students in the Tower on historical London visit

The group took part in a session based on the Crusades at the Knights of St John Museum.

The museum tells a unique and fascinating story – the story of the Order of St John – from its origins in 11th Century Jerusalem, through to its role today with St John Ambulance.

The interactive session lasted approximately one hour and included the chance to handle artefacts dating back over 500 years.

Students were given a behind the scenes tour of the crypt and museum chapel.

After a tour of the museum, the students headed for the Tower of London where they visited the Jewel House – home to the famous Crown Jewels.

They then moved on to the White Tower.

As the oldest part of the Tower, it was built to strike fear and submission into the unruly citizens of London.

The White Tower is one of the most famous castle keeps in the world.

It was built, to awe, subdue and terrify Londoners and to deter foreign invaders.

The Wales High party looked at the armour, artefacts and displays showing the story of the Tower.

After a quick trip to the Tower Shop, they stopped for photographs at Tower Bridge and hopped back on to the Underground, stopping at Westminster.

They walked past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and took in Westminster Abbey, 10 Downing Street and Horse Guards Parade.

They finished with a glimpse of Buckingham Palace from the top of the Mall before heading home.
