VIDEO: Worksop ‘legal high’ shop owner defends controversial new store

The owner of a ‘legal high’ shop which has opened in Worksop has hit back at criticism in this week’s Guardian.

A mother claimed that Bing Bong, on Gateford Road, was encouraging young people to start taking drugs.

She said it was ‘disgusting’ the shop had been allowed to open, while Bassetlaw MP John Mann said it was an ‘unwelcome addition’ to the town.

But the owner of the shop released a statement to the Guardian on Friday saying it was a ‘legitimate business’.

“We wish only to comply with the law,” he said. “These products are largely available on the internet and there are outlets in nearby shopping centres.”

“These products clearly state that they are not for human consumption and we do not sell these for any other purposes than herbal incense and research chemicals.”

“What any individual chooses to do with these are not within my control. However I do know we regulate a strict no under 18s policy.”

“These research chemicals are only three per cent of what we sell.”
