Simon O’Sullivan, 48, and Alyx Greaves, 31, asked all of their 50 guests to dress in ghoulish outfits to mark their special day at the town’s register office.

Alyx’s ivory wedding dress was accompanied by candy skull make-up and Simon, his best man and his father-in-law, dressed up in skull printed suits.

‘This is Halloween’ theme from ‘Nightmare before Christmas’ was played as Alyx’s bridal march and the couple walked out to ‘The Addams Family’ theme.

Even Nottinghamshire County Council registrars leading the ceremony got into the spirit by donning ghostly outfits and accessories.

Simon said: “Halloweeen is our favourite day of the year so we thought we’d do something different for our wedding.

“We had a mixed reaction from friends and family when we told them as some thought it was a wind-up but they are now more excited than we are about the day.”

The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Shireoaks Miners Welfare.

Speaking before the big day, registrar, Lucy Purkiss, said: “We work with couples to make sure their big day is exactly how they want it and on this occasion we are dressing up to fit in with the couple’s Halloween theme, which is going to be great fun.”

The county council is conducting 15 weddings across Nottinghamshire between the dates 29 to 31 October this year.

Register offices in the county are managed by the county council and their registrars also undertake wedding and civil partnerships at wide range of approved venues across the county.
