It comes after a bathroom suite, tyres and home office equipment was among the waste found by Bassetlaw Council’s environmental health team in woods near Styrrup.

A local resident reported a speedboat had been dumped and took a photograph which was sent to the council, but this had gone when officers arrived.

Waste was also found in two watercourses, increasing the threat of localised flooding.

Coun Julie Leigh said: “Fly tipping is a selfish and irresponsible act that ultimately costs the council money to clean up, which could be better spent elsewhere.”

“Not only does it look horrible, but it can also attract vermin, pollute and block watercourses and contribute to flooding.”

“I would urge residents to report cases of fly tipping by contacting us on the Council Tip Off Line - 01909 534501 or by using our online Report Fly Tipping Form on the council’s website.”
