VIDEO: Man dies in house fire

He was rescued from the property on Pilsley Road, Morton, at around 8.45pm on Wednesday.

Firefighters battled in vain to save the 69-year-old but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The family’s pet dog survived the fire.

A joint investigation into the fatal blaze involving Derbyshire Fire and Rescue and Derbyshire police will get underway this morning.

A fire spokesman said: “Our thoughts and sympathy are extended to the family and friends of the deceased at this sad and distressing time.”
