The award reaffirms the position of Kings’ Park as one of the country’s finest open spaces and highlights Bassetlaw Council’s continued commitment to the importance of green spaces in communities.

The national award, handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

Coun Julie Leigh, cabinet member for neighbourhoods said: “Kings’ Park is a much loved facility and rightly deserving of a sixth Green Flag Award in a row.”

“This award provides national recognition for the achievements of our parks and open spaces team whose hard work and dedication has helped to maintain Kings’ Park as a fantastic place for all Retfordians to enjoy, as well as the many visitors from outside the district that the park attracts.”

“I’d also like to pay tribute to the work of the Friends of Kings’ Park Group who were instrumental in helping retaining the Green Flag and all Retford Councillors for their support of Kings’ Park.”

Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “Quality green spaces are absolutely essential to happy, healthy communities. They are fundamental to our quality of life, whether in cities, towns or villages. That is why it is so significant that we have given out more awards than ever before.”
