These instruments will be used by all children in the school starting at Foundation Stage right through to year 6.
On Tuesday 30th September the children got their first ‘taste’ of playing authentic African rhythms on African D’jembe drums.
A visiting specialist, Mr Victor Scott from Nottingham, came into the school and ran workshops showing the children basic drumming techniques and putting together short rhythmic patterns based on African rhythms.
The school has enough D’jembes for a full class to be working with them together with other percussion instruments from around the world. The full set includes Bento shakers, M’bira thumb pianos, bongos and guiros and many other more traditional instruments.
The children had a great day and are all looking forward to music lessons in the future.
