VIDEO: 50 per cent of cancer patients surviving for 10 years
Figures show half of people now being diagnosed with cancer in England and Wales will survive for at least a decade after diagnosis, which is double the rate expected in the early 1970s.
New treatments, earlier diagnosis and screening have all helped to increase this survival rate.
Cancer Research UK carried out the research, the say there now needs to be new, more ambitious aims for cancer research. They are hoping to see 10-year survival hit 75% in the next 20 years.
