Urgent police appeal after sighting of child near Worksop

NOTTS Police have issued an urgent appeal to identify and locate a young child who was reportedly seen walking alone along the A60 near Cuckney and Worksop this morning (Thursday)

However, no child has been reported missing to either Notts or Derbyshire Police.

Nevertheless, officers have carried out searches of the area to try and find the girl, who is described as white, aged between five and eight years old, wearing a pink coat and carrying a back pack.

Three members of the public reported seeing the girl between around 8.30am and 8.40am on Thursday 16th February.

A police spokesman said: “One member of the public reported seeing her close to the junction with Buskeyfield Lane, north of Cuckney, walking in the direction of Worksop. The other callers reported seeing her close to the turn-off for Creswell.”

He added: “Police want to ensure the girl is safe and well, and want to hear from anyone who may know who the child is, or who believes they have seen the child on Thursday.”

“They should be assured that the child’s welfare is the most important issue to officers at this time and relatives should have no concerns about calling the police.”

If the child has returned home, her parents or guardians are also urged to telephone Notts or Derbyshire Police on 101 to confirm she is safe.

The Nottinghamshire incident number is 133 of 16th February.
