Upton man had 1,300 indecent child images

A 62-YEAR-OLD Upton man has admitted downloading thousands of indecent photos and videos of children.

Frederick Winter, of Main Street, Upton, near Gainsborough, appeared before Lincoln magistrates on Tuesday.

He admitted two charges of possessing more than 1,300 indecent images of children on a computer and DVD disks.

Five other charges relate to making (downloading) still and moving images.

Some of the material, discovered by police officers in January 2010, was classed as level five - the most serious.

Prosecuting, Mr Jim Clare said Winter had been arrested after intelligence from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre detected an email sent from his email address containing an indecent image of a child.

The court heard how he was arrested on 10th January 2010 and a search warrant executed at his home.

“A computer tower and quantity of DVDs were seized and examined by police,” said Mr Clare.

“They were found to contain a total of 1,336 indecent images of children, still and moving, classified between one and five in seriousness.”

He said some of the videos were up to half an hour long and the material featured children as young as one or two.

In police interview Winter admitted using the email address, downloading the images and copying them to disks.

Magistrates committed the case to Lincoln Crown Court for sentencing on a date to be confirmed.

Mitigation and a probation report will be heard then.

Winter was bailed under the condition he does not to have unsupervised care of anyone under the age of 16.
