UPSETTING PICTURES: Urgent RSPCA appeal after abused dog 'starved and left to die' in an alleyway

The dog, which was a female and believed to be a whippet lurcher cross, was found dying of starvation and hypothermia off Lancastrian Way in Worksop by a group of teenagers on Sunday afternoon (February 21).

She was immediately rushed to Wildbore vets on Turner Road but was too weak to swallow any food or water- and sadly had to be euthanized.

Katie Burris, RSPCA animal welfare officer, was called to the vets after the dog was found and said it was “one of the worst cases of neglect” she had ever seen.

Katie said: “As part of my job, I’m always picking up starved and neglected dogs. But this was absolutely the thinnest dog I have come across so far.

“She was only young, probably around 18 months old. Someone one must know who did this. I cannot believe that in this day and age a dog would be treated this way.

“I have named the dog Honey, in an effort to personalise this abused dog and at least give it some dignity in death.

“Honey was a light sandy colour and wearing a black collar, but was not microchipped.

“She must have lived in the area of Lancastrian Way, perhaps just within walking distance of where she was found,” Katie added.
