Uphill trek for a fundraiser

Steve Bott, 48, completed the sponsored walk up and down Scotland’s highest mountain in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in North Anston.

Conquering Ben Nevis was a personal ambition for Steve who enjoys walking in his spare time.

The 9.5 mile trek up and down the 4,409ft Scottish peak took him eight hours.

Steve, of Broadoaks Road, said: “My wife and I have climbed above 2,000ft on a number of occasions and we have done the Yorkshire Three Peaks a few times. But I’ve never been above 2,500ft before and at 4,400ft this was very much a challenge.”

Steve set himself a goal of raising £250 for the hospice so he was delighted to raise four times that.

He added: “I was just pleased to get any money. I know people don’t have much to spare in these hard economic times.”
