A problem with fibre cables in Chesterfield town centre has left Sky customers in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire without the internet for more than 24 hours.

Sky have this morning said a break in fibre cables affected services in Worksop, Carlton, Whitwell, Clay Cross, Alfreton and Tickhill.

People have been unable to get online and make phone calls since Wednesday morning.

Some customers have also taken to social media to express their frustrations.

A statement on the Sky website says: “The latest news we have is that repair work started late last night, however due to a gas leak, engineers had to leave the site as a precaution. Work has re-started this morning.

“We’ll provide our next update at lunchtime. Calls to emergency services are unaffected.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
