UPDATE: Police name man killed in fatal A57 crash at Aston

Police have named the man killed on the A57 near Aston as 28 year-old Wayne Spencer, who was from the Aston area.

The fatal accident happened at around 1am on Sunday, 6th July.

A 29 year-old woman remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The accident occurred on the A57 near to Junction 31 of the M1.

Police have arrested a 34 year-old Rotherham man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 37 year-old Rotherham woman was also arrested, initially for the same reason.

However, that was later changed to suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both were questioned by police and then released on bail.

Two further people have also been spoken to by police but neither was formally arrested or charged.

Neither of the two people arrested have been named by police at this stage.

The name of the injured woman has also still not been released.

When the accident occurred, it is believed Mr Spencer and the injured woman were on a moped, which collided with a BMW car.

The road was closed for more than 12 hours on the Sunday between the B6067 Worksop Road and A618 Mansfield Road as a result.

Police conducted initial investigations at the scene for a number of hours before reopening the road.

They also appealed for anyone who had witnessed the incident or had seen any cars with what looked like recent frontal damage in or around the area, to contact them.

Around 14 hours after the accident,the first arrest was made.

News of the second arrest then broke the following day.

Police are still keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information they believe could be useful.
