The incident happened on Memorial Way just before 4.30pm.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman has now confirmed that a police car was involved, after speculation on social media during the day.

The female has been taken to hospital in Sheffield for treatment.

The incident has also been reffered to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), which is understood to be standard practice.

All major roads towards the town centre were cordoned off and police officers were in attendance at the scene.
