UPDATE 12.00: A619 reopened after earlier accident

POLICE have now re-opened the A619 near Hotel Van Dyke in Clowne.

A multi-vehicle pile-up closed the road in both directions for most of this morning (Thursday 6th December).

At 8.15am a Warburton’s lorry was in collision with a Fiat Punto.

Two other vehicles also became involved in the smash, a Peugeot 206 and a Fiat Panda.

The driver of the Punto, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to Calow hospital with an arm injury. No-one else was badly hurt.

The road was closed in both directions between the A618 Rotherham Road junction and Gapsick Lane.

A recovery vehicle was needed to retrieved the lorry which had slid into a ditch.

It is thought hazardous driving conditions could have played a part in the smash.

Drivers are advised to be extra vigilant in case of icy patches, as the temperature is not expected to rise far above freezing today.
