“I jumped at the chance when I got the phonecall from the academy to take the boys there on a Sunday afternoon.”

The big day out began with a tour around the iconic Anfield football ground.

The boys had a look around the changing rooms, where Premiership stars like Steven Gerard prepare for games, and the Anfield pitch.

They then travelled to the training ground for their match.

Boardman said: “I’m extremely proud of what this team achieved last season, and this was a fantastic opportunity for the boys, and the football club.”
