The changes, which will come into effect on December 1, 2015, mean that each individual person will have to register for themselves.

Previously, one person could register everyone their entire household to vote, but this will no longer be the case.

This change is a year earlier than expected and it is feared that people may not know about it.

This could mean people may turn up to the elections in May and they not realise they are unable to vote until they get to the polling booth - which would be too late.

The number of people registered to vote by December will also be the basis for the changes to constituencies next year.

If peopel are not registered, this could result in misrepresented communities.
