Two properties to be demolished as part of Manton allotments housing plan

Bassetlaw District Council and A1 Housing carried out a public consultation in June and July 2015 to ask residents what kind of development they would like to see on an area of land known as the “Old Allotments’, located between Lincoln Street and Furnival Street, which has previously been a fly-tipping hot spot.

Following the consultation, which received 178 responses, residents said they would like to see some form of council housing with a mix of two, three, and four-bedroomed properties.

The site will require a new access point, which will mean that a pair of semi-detached houses, which have already been identified and are both managed by the council and A1 Housing, will need to be demolished. The council say they are working with the affected tenants, who will receive “priority rehousing.”

Councillor Steve Scotthorne, cabinet member for housing at the district council, said: “Firstly I would like to thank those residents of Manton who took part in the consultation and who spared the time to come to see us and share their views. We had some fantastic feedback and this will all help to shape the development as plans move forward.

“It’s still early days but residents may start to see some works take place on the old allotments site this week in preparation for future development. As things progress we will keep residents as informed as we can.”

The district council and A1 Housing are currently looking at options of how the project can be funded, in addition to meeting with potential developers ahead of a formal tender process later this year.

The authority is also looking at additional sites in the immediate area where facilities such as open spaces or play facilities could be provided and/or improved.
