A marathon effort by two Derbyshire nurses has raised hundreds of pounds for a cancer service while commemorating the life of an exceptional colleague.

Staff nurses at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre, Candace Boyd and Claire McClean, took part in the Sheffield Half Marathon to raise money for the Weston Park Cancer Support Centre in memory of their friend and colleague Vivian Bradley, who died earlier this year.

Candace said: “Vivian was the epitome of a dedicate nurse. She was kind, caring, humorous and knowledgeable. She dedicated her life to nursing and caring for local people; working at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and then at the treatment centre.

“We wanted to celebrate her life and commitment to caring for others in a positive way. We decided to run for the support centre that helps so many people undergoing treatment, while also supporting their families.”

The friends raised £440 in total.

Head of Nursing at the Barlborough centre, Elaine Bodle, said: “It was an exceptional effort.”
