Two in court for fraud and theft

TWO men charged with stealing from a Gainsborough plumbing business have had their case discharged - but could be re-charged in the near future.

Lee William Burgess, 27, from Lord Street in Gainsborough, and Patrick Gavagan, 31, from Lincoln Road in Bassingham, both deny a string of offences against Graham Plumbers Merchants on Corringham Road throughout 2010.

Burgess is accused of false accounting and theft while Gavagan was charged with false accounting, as well as stealing four televisions, 40 boilers worth £30,000 and £2,269 in cash.

The case however, had to come to a halt as evidence and paperwork from Notts Police had not yet been completed and received by the court. The court heard how the case is being dealt with by Notts Police as opposed to locally because one of the defendants has a relative in Lincs Police.

“I’m not going to allow any further adjournment,” said District Judge John Stobart.

He told the defendants: “You probably will be re-charged in the future. Don’t go out celebrating - you may be disappointed very shortly.”

The case is expected to come back before Lincoln Magistrates Court in the coming months.
