Staff at Sherwood Forest Hospitals are celebrating after the Trust came out top in the East Midlands for treating patients who have had a stroke.

The Trust also boasts the seventh highest score in the country out of 140 trusts, after being given an “A rating” by the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme.

The audit is carried out quarterly and this is the fourth time that the team has remained at the top of the score board.

Emma Gillies, stroke nurse specialist at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, said: “It is brilliant that we have maintained our A rating and continue to be one of the best in the East Midlands for delivering stroke care.

“We are all really proud of the care that we give to our patients.

“It is so pleasing to see that we have continued to progress and build on our high standards.”

Trust staff such as stroke consultants, stroke nurse specialists, language therapists, clinical psychologists and paramedics were found to be “among the best” when it came to assessing potential stroke patients- and ensuring they received swift and appropriate treatment and follow-on therapy.

Collecting data from 200 hospitals in the UK, the SSNAP measures key areas in the stroke patient journey from admission to discharge including assessment times and how long it takes for a patient to get a CT scan.

The Trust first signed up to the SSNAP programme in 2012.
