Trent Bridge repairs will ‘restore former glory’

MOTORISTS could experience delays around the A631 Trent Bridge area of Gainsborough from Monday 21st November.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane over the bridge, while essential maintenance work is done over five weeks.

Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways Alliance will be refurbishing the parapet railings over the Grade II listed structure, restoring it to its former glory.

Corroded railings will either be replaced or repaired. They will be painted in a heritage green colour using high-tech paint designed to last for future generations.

They will be removed and painted away from the site to produce a high quality finish and reduce the chance of bad weather affecting the project.

Missing stone copings and plaques will also be replaced and minor repairs carried out to sections of accident damaged barriers.

Area Highways Manager Steve Wiles said the work should refresh the appearance of the entrance to the town and enhance the view along one of Gainsborough’s main routes.

“We are also fully aware of the potential disruption and travel delays these essential works may create,” he said.

“Please bear with us as we endeavour to complete the works, which require care and consideration, in as short timescale as possible.”

Four-way temporary traffic lights will be operating at the Bridge Street, Flood Road, Lea Road and Bridge Road junction.

But to minimise disruption these will only operate from 9.30am to 3.30pm on week days.

Pedestrians will still be able to cross the bridge using the path on the opposite side to the maintenance works.

Street lighting and river navigation lighting will not be affected.
