Trains disrupted by cable thieves

POLICE are hunting metal thieves who stole 40m of railway cable – disrupting trains between Rotherham and Meadowhall.

Replacement buses were put on for passengers unable to travel between Rotherham Central station and Meadowhall on Monday.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We got reports at 3.40am of a loss of signalling between Rotherham and Adwick.”

“Police were dispatched to the scene and a search of the area took place. We also had dog units out searching the area, but no suspects were found.”
