Motorists were stuck in traffic on the A1 when two BMW cars and a toyota were involved in a collision on the southbound carriageway shortly before 7am.
The incident took place at the Markham Moor junction in Tuxford.
There were no injuries.
The road has now been cleared and the carriageway is back open.
