Toy joy for Christmas gift appeal

CHRISTMAS this year was extra-special for hundreds of children across the district thanks to David Hawke’s annual Toy Appeal.

Kind-hearted folk donated more than 1,000 toys and games to the appeal, which is run by Val Casey and the team at the Worksop estate agents.

The toys will be distributed to hundreds of under-privileged children across Bassetlaw this Christmas.

For more than 20 years David Hawke Properties has run the appeal in conjunction with Bassetlaw Social Care to ensure children who may not normally receive a present have something to open on Christmas Day.

And two lucky members of the public who gave a gift were drawn from a raffle to win a £50 high street voucher each.

Val said she was overwhelmed by the response this year and thanked everyone who donated a gift to the appeal.

“I would like to say a massive thank you to our wonderful public - their generosity has been amazing,” she said.

“There will be an awful lot of happy faces now on Christmas morning and without everyone’s help that wouldn’t have happened.”

She added: “I would also like to say a big thanks to Dave Robertson and all involved at Wilkinson’s, as well as A1 Housing - you have supported us yet again and your efforts have helped us out tremendously.”

Staff at A1 Housing, based at the Hundred Acre Lane depot, donated a total of 92 toys and games to this year’s appeal.

A1 Housing customer services manager Sam Roberts said: “We are always pleased to support the David Hawke Christmas appeal and staff have been even more generous than last year. “

“A special mention should go to our community development officer Nicola Perkins who makes sure A1 Housing staff don’t forget to put an extra present in their shopping bag.”
