Torksey: Former Sheffield United footballer Marlon King changes his plea to guilty to dangerous driving

A former Sheffield Uniter footballer, who now lives in Torksey, has changed his plea to guilty to dangerous driving after a three-car crash left a man with a fractured elbow.

Marlon King, 33, who had previously pleaded not guilty, was driving a Porsche on the A46 in Notts when the crash happened on 26th April 2013.

The injured man, 35, was airlifted to hospital following the collision at Winthorpe, near Newark.

The footballer will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on 2nd May.

Jamaican international King, whose previous clubs include Gillingham, Nottingham Forest, Watford, Wigan, Coventry City, Hull City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, and Sheffield United, was due to go on trial yesterday (Tuesday 18th March) after pleading not guilty to a charge of dangerous driving at an earlier hearing but he has now changed his plea to guilty.

The charge of dangerous driving carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

King was granted unconditional bail,

King has previous convictions and was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman and causing actual bodily harm at a bar in London in 2008 and he was jailed for 18 months and sacked by Wigan Athletic.

And in 2002, while playing for Gillingham, he received a prison sentence for handling a stolen car.
