Torksey: Charity ball held in memory of Ethan raises funds for his ‘Up Yours to Cancer’ foundation

A festive ball in memory of Ethan Maull, who lost his battle with cancer earlier this year, raised more than £17,000 in aid of his charity foundation.

The Ethan Maull ‘Up Yours To Cancer’ Foundation made a total of £17,281 at its annual Black and White Christmas Ball held at Jocasta’s in Lincoln on Saturday 6th December.

Dawn Foulston, Ethan Maull’s godmother and organiser of the event, said: “We are absolutely astonished at the staggering amount of money that we managed to collect this year.”

“The ball was a great success, but I couldn’t have done it alone.”

“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who was involved in the planning, who made donations and showed their support on the night.”

The charity ball was held in memory of 10-year-old Ethan, who passed away on 5th May 2014 after losing his fight against cancer.

Ethan and his family, who live in Torksey near Lincoln, set up the foundation in 2013 to help raise awareness of osteosarcoma after he was diagnosed with the rare form of children’s bone cancer in December 2012.

A total of £8,685 was generated from the auction, almost half of the total funds raised on the night.

Lots included a signed football from Manchester United, a signed cap from Ferrari racers, a signed Red Arrows flying suit and a holiday house in Spain for a week.

Guests who attended the black and white themed event also took part in a game of heads and tails and a raffle, which collectively raised over £3,600.

Dawn added: “We received some fantastic donations for our raffle and auction and we started the bidding process for some of the more premium prizes on Facebook before the event to give more people a chance of winning.”

Ethan’s mother, Sam Maull, said: “I’m thrilled at the success of this year’s ball.”

“I had a wonderful evening and it was great to see all the effort friends and family put into the making it an eventful evening.”

“Dawn and a few of the ladies even surprised Darren and me with an entertaining dance routine.”

“This year has been very hard for us and we were both devastated that Ethan was not able share a great night with us, but I believe he was with us in spirit.”

“I would like to thank Jocasta’s for allowing us to use the venue again and Vanessa Dineen, Emma South and Sarah Hughes for helping to organise the ball.”

The ball featured entertainment from stand-up comedian Lea Roberts and a live performance from band The 4 Tarantinos, a five-course meal and a disco.
