An outstanding nine out of the ten areas under assessment were considered ‘excellent’ by the inspection team from the Independent Schools Inspectorate, the body approved by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills for the purpose of inspecting independent schools.

The tenth area was considered ‘good’ with the addition that ‘much was excellent’.

Five inspectors visited on two separate occasions in October and November 2011 to assess the school in ten particular areas of provision: quality of pupils’ achievements; quality of the curriculum and extra-curricular activities; contribution of teaching; the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils; arrangements for welfare, health and safety; quality of boarding education; quality of governance; quality of leadership and management; quality of links with parents; and the effectiveness of Early Years provision.

As part of the scrutiny, the inspectors examined pupils’ work, observed lessons, conducted interviews with pupils and staff, and assessed the responses of pupil and parent questionnaires.

The report highlights the quality of pupils’ achievement, governance, leadership and the links between school and parents, amongst others.
