Tired little legs for a good cause

TOTS took part in a colourful sponsored walk in aid of the Meningitis Trust, raising more than £2,000 as they toddled.

The Gainsborough group of 25 toddlers and their parents set off from All Saints Parish Church and made their way to Richmond Park.

“It was a lovely sunny day and the little ones did really well,” said organised Lucy Jones, who lost her little boy Joshua to meningitis in 2010.

“They all looked great in their Monty Duck masks and outfits, and it all paid off with us raising a fantastic amount for the charity.”

Monty is the Meningitis Trust mascot and he certainly brightened up the Toddle Waddle.

Lucy chose to hold the event in April which was national meningitis awareness month and it was also close to Joshua’s birthday.

“Obviously the last two years have been hard but it felt really good to do something positive,” said Lucy, of Laurel Close, Gainsborough.

“It wasn’t just about raising money, it was about raising awareness of the symptoms of the disease and making parents aware of the need to act quickly.”

Lucy has a ten-year-old daughter, Ellie, and 18-month-old Georgia who did the walk with her mum.

“Once we got the Richmond Park we had a lovely picnic and a colouring competition,” said Lucy.

“We also gave a certificate and a medal to each child that took part.”

“I would just like to thank everyone who joined us and who sponsored us. It’s definitely something I’d like to do again, hopefully bigger and better next year.”
