A tide of winners in Trent photo contest

GAINSBOROUGH’S River Trent provided winning inspiration for 15-year-old photographer Emma Nicholson.

The youngster was thrilled to take top prize in the under-16s category of the Trent Vale photography competition with her photo entitled Sunset on the Trent.

The competition, run by the Trent Vale Partnership, aimed to capture everyday life along the River Trent from everyday people.

Entries were of a high standard, featuring wildlife, landscape and urban images.

The photos will now tour venues and events along the Trent Vale region.

Emma said: “I always enjoy exploring the area, gazing at the nature and enjoying the wonderful wildlife and landscapes.”

“Thanks to this opportunity I’ve managed to combine my two favourite hobbies and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed doing it.”

Emma’s photo was reproduced on a large canvas and she was also given a £100 voucher.

Around 40 people came to a special event which showcased the winners’ photos which will form a new permanent exhibition at the Willow Works heritage centre in Old Trent Road, Beckingham.

Winners will also see their images on the back of buses throughout the region, promoting the Trent Vale Festival year.

The overall winner in the over-16s category was Anna Millard with a May Day photograph of Rattlejag Morris dancers at Laxton near Goole.
