Thurcroft gala back on the agenda

PLANS are under way to bring a summer gala back to Thurcrfot thanks to the enthusiasm of one local man.

Ken Brierton is working tirelessly to ensure that the Thurcroft Gala takes place this year on Monday 27th August.

He has worked with Thurcroft Miners Institute with support from Rotherham Council to funding worth £2,500.

The Big Local programme is being launched at the gala and will bring in another £500.

With the help of this funding, Ken has ordered marquees, circus performers, a climbing wall, an inflatable football pitch, bouncy castle, slide, children’s rides and much more.

He is arranging a host of performances on the day including Jets dance group, martial arts, Thurcroft brass band and performances from local drama groups.

Ken said: “You can’t stop me now. I am keen to involve anyone from the village who wants to help.”

“I am presently recruiting teams for tug of war and five a side football. This day will certainly bring all residents of the village together.”

The gala will be held between 12pm and 4pm on Monday 27th August on the Recreational Field, Orchard Lane in Thurcroft. The gala is free to attend but any profits from the event will be donated to Rotherham Hospice.

School children from the Willows School and Thurcroft Infant School are designing logos as part of a competition.

Ken added: “This gala is for everyone in Thurcroft. You are welcome to our planning group meetings, join our Facebook group or visit the website. Come along and get involved.”

Ken is still seeking volunteers to deliver leaflets and also to help out on the day with marshalling and little picking.
