Thorpe Salvin: Garden trail ready to open to the public once again

Despite the recession, threats of thunder and a burgeoning slug population, the villagers of Thorpe Salvin are still holding their annual Garden Trail on 19th and 20th July to showcase the village gardens.

The garden trail has been a popular event since villagers first decided to enter the Royal Horticultural Society’s Village in Bloom competition in 1980.

After achieving huge success in the competition, winning the overall prize in the best small village category on three occasions, and scooping the hugely prestigious European Entente Floral prize in 2002, Thorpe Salvin no longer puts itself forward for large scale gardening awards.

However, villagers still open their gardens to the public for two days each July to raise money for local charities and this year’s main cause is St Peter’s church in the centre of the village.

“The Garden Trail is the result of a huge year round effort on the part of many volunteers”, said Lesley Hayes, chairman of Thorpe in Bloom.

“We are delighted that this year, we again also have a display of classic cars, which will be located on the car park of the village pub.”

Entry to the trial is £5 for adults with children free.
