‘Think local’ campaign launch

HAPPY shoppers from in and around Gainsborough are being encouraged to shop locally this Christmas by a new campaign from West Lindsey District Council.

The Think Local First campaign is designed to raise awareness about quality local foods and services that are available right on our doorstep.

A WLDC spokesman said: “There are a variety of local food shops which sell fresh Lincolnshire produce which can be ordered ready for you pick up on Christmas Eve.”

He continued: “And don’t forget the local weekly markets in Gainsborough, Caistor and Market Rasen where you can find a wide variety of great offers.”

Chairman of West Lindsey District Council’s Prosperous Communities Committee, Coun Malcolm Parish said he was keen to encourage local shopping.

“We can all help small local shops to stay in business and this in turn will help support local jobs and improve the well-being of local communities,” he said.

“It means that more money gets re-circulated in the Lincolnshire economy instead of pouring out to nationally or internationally owned companies.”

Coun Parish added: “And you can reduce your carbon footprint – local trade is often the greener option, which is an added bonus.”

Gainsborough Town Centre Partnership Manager David Hawkins was delighted by the Council’s support.

“It’s great that West Lindsey District Council want to try and support local businesses,” he said.

“Any campaign that encourages shoppers and businesses to spend their money locally will boost trade to our town.”
