Thief is spared stint in prison

Marc Potts-Pimperton, 38, of Queen Street, was handed a suspended jail sentence by Worksop Magistrates on Thursday.

He admitted stealing boxes of Toblerone to an unknown value from Sainsbury’s on 12th December.

He also admitted two further charges of theft from Home Bargains on 12th and 20th December when he took toffees and pork scratchings worth £2.23 and deodorant and Nivea gift packs worth £30.95.

The court heard that on 12th December Potts-Pimperton was seen in Sainsbury’s in Worksop with a large bulge in his coat.

Staff recognised him and police were called. When he was shown CCTV footage Potts-Pimperton said he couldn’t remember the theft, but admitted the man shown looked like him.

The court heard he had sold the Nivea Gift packs that he had taken from Home Bargains.

David Grant, defending, urged the court to suspend any prison term.

“I know a prison sentence won’t have a long term effect on his offending,” he said.

“Probation are saying he can be dealt with in the community.”

He was sentenced to 90 days for the Sainsbury’s theft and 90 days for the two other thefts to run concurrently, and a further 30 days for refusing to complete a spit test, to run consecutively. All were suspended for 12 months.

He will also complete 12 months supervision with the Probation Service.
