There is still time to have the chance to turn on Gainsborough's Christmas lights with Santa

Father Christmas has teamed up with your Gainsborough Standard and the town's Marshall's Yard shopping centre to ask children to write in and explain why they should be the one to light up the town for the festive period.

Youngsters have until Monday, November 14, at 5pm to get their letters in to the Gainsborough Standard office.

The winner will help Santa to switch on Marshall’s Yard’s lights on Friday, November 18, at 8pm.

The winning child will also win an M&S Christmas hamper for their family, as well as a Christmas turkey and a traditional family board game.

There will be entertainment running throughout Gainsborough from 4pm at the big switch-on.

And with two stages, one in the town centre and the other in Marshall’s Yard, there will be double the entertainment.

Headline acts include tributes to Little Mix and Michael Bublé,as well as the return of The Torn.

There will also be two fairgrounds, free unicorn and carriage rides, free face painting, food and craft stalls, stilt walkers and plenty of other wonderful attractions.

The evening will end with a fireworks display at Marshall’s Yard.

Entries should be a maximum of 200 words, which can be emailed to the Gainsborough Standard at [email protected] or sent to The Gainsborough Standard, Unit 1b. Britannia House, Marshall’s Yard Gainsborough DN21 2NA.

The deadline for entries is November 14, at 5pm.
