Theft to pay for gifts at Christmas

A NEED to buy Christmas presents drove a Worksop woman to steal from a shop, a court heard.

Hayley Kate Vilma Owen, 24, of The Croft, admitted theft from a shop at Worksop Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Neil Major, prosecuting, told the court that Owen was seen putting two watches into a carrier bag by Sports Direct security staff at 4.20pm on 19th December. She left without paying for the watches, worth £26, and was arrested.

David Verity, defending, said Owen had taken the items to get money to buy Christmas presents.

Sentencing was adjourned until 11th January to tie in with a drug rehabilitation review hearing.
