‘The Terminator’ cycles 110-mile charity ride

EX-MARINE Scott Stretton completed his second mammoth charity bike ride, years after being told he would never walk again.

The fitness mad dad, 43, cycled 110 miles from Worksop through Gainsborough and Retford before returning home on the same day - within seven hours.

He - along with a handful of other cyclists - returned to the saddle in the searing heat over Jubilee Weekend, while raising funds for British Red Cross, Help For Heroes and St John Ambulance.

“It went brilliantly,” said Scott.

“We did have some breaks along the way due to the heat, but I would have preferred it to be warm than wet!”

“I ached a bit on Saturday night, I shan’t lie but I was back in the gym Sunday morning.”

“I’m feeling all right now.”

Scott suffered a severely broken leg when competing in a battlefield training run in the Territorial Army, some 16 years ago.

His health gradually declined but in 2010 he decided enough was enough and sought help from Harvey’s gym in Worksop.

“John Simmonds, a personal trainer there helped me develop a fitness programme to suit my injury,” he said.

“I gradually got stronger, losing five-stone and now I rarely have to take pain killers.”

Scott completed a 90-mile bikeathon last year and has now set his sights on cycling from Lands End to John o’Groats.

“It feels pretty good to have achieved what I have, to be honest,” Scott added.

“They are jokingly calling me ‘The Terminator’ because I just kept on going.”
