Daneshill Sailing Club in Retford is one of six clubs across Nottinghamshire taking part in the Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) Push The Boat Out initiative, which starts this weekend.
Running from Saturday, May 14 until Sunday, May 22, Push The Boat Out will see club’s like Daneshill letting people try sailing for free or for a low cost for the next week.
Push The Boat Out is the national ‘have-a-go’ at sailing festival organised by sailing’s national governing body, which will see no fewer than 44 events take place at 26 venues throughout the East Midlands, amongst more than 300 nationwide, over the course of nine days.
Events can include dinghy sailing, windsurfing, bigger boats, sailing for the disabled and even powerboat rides, and although each event is different, all are geared to appeal to as many people as possible, regardless of age, ability or experience.
All you will need to get afloat is some comfortable clothes and old trainers you don’t mind getting wet and, weather depending, a waterproof and sunscreen.
Buoyancy aids, equipment and safety brief will be provided by the venues and refreshments will be available.
