Suspended sentence for assault

A 22-year-old man has been handed a 120 day prison sentence suspended for 12 months for a ‘serious attack’ on another man.

Benjamin Allen, from Oxton Close, Retford, assaulted Paul Bell on 29th October 2011 in Worksop.

Andrew Bevan, defending, said the two men involved did not know each other before the attack.

“He (Bell) took the phone without consent of his (Allen) sister. He sent inappropriate text messages to her which angered Allen,” Mr Bevan said. Allen admitted to the charge and, in addition to the suspended sentence, was given a 12 month community order with supervision, ordered to pay £200 compensation as well as £100 towards court costs.
