Student’s ‘pride’ at Legion honour

A LOCAL lad has once again been become the Royal British Legion youth standard bearer.

Joshua Sayles, of Katherine Road, Thurcroft, is proud to represent the youth arm of the RBL for the rest of the year.

The 16-year-old, who is a member of the Dinnington branch of the RBL, previously held the title when he was just 14.

The Wales High School pupil (left) had to claim several titles in order to scoop the top accolade - in the local and regional standard bearer competitions.

Finally as the regional winner he got the chance to enter the national competition at the Territorial Army centre at Bulwell last month.

“It was a very proud moment,” said Joshua’s grandfather and Dinnington RBL president John Sayles.

“Three years ago he won the national competition and last year he defended his title and came third.”

“He’s gone back again this year and won. He’s done so well.”

Joshua will receive the national youth standard at the RBL annual conference in Scarborough later this month.

And as a result of his success, Joshua could be called on to carry out other standard bearing duties during the year.

The main event will be attending the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London later this year.
