Striders pair just outside the top 10 in the gruelling Hardmoors 60 Challenge event

A pair of Gainsborough Striders athletes finished just outside the top 10, in a gruelling race last weekend.

Tom Humphries (V40) and Jerry McCulla (V35) finished a magnificent joint 11th in the Hardmoors 60 Challenge, in a 11 hours 45 mins 45 secs.

The 62 miles route started in Guisborough and finished in Filey with 3,330m of ascent.

Humphries also won the Ponton Plod, a 17 mile multi-terrain course near Grantham, the previous week, beating his existing course record by five minutes.

Norman Hindley (V60) finished 13th in 2 hours 44 mins.

At the Burton Pidsea 10k, near Hull, the Clark family had a highly successful trip with dad Alan winning the V45 age-group in a personal best time of 38 mins 44 secs.

Son Elliott, 15, won the U17 age group in his debut at the distance in 5 mins 35 secs and mum Joanne took the top prize in the FV45 age group in 50.58.

Clark snr also established a new all-time club age-group record with this performance.

In the latest Scunthorpe 5k parkrun, Lorna Allison produced her second fastest 5k time finishing first lady in 19.56.

Gary Atkinson maintained his consistent form recording 21:24, with Hayley Bellamy knocking over a minute off her previous best in 30.22.

The Striders’ next social will be held on 25th October at the Elm Cottage, with the London Marathon ‘Club Places’ draw.
